To miss February’s Grand Theft Impro & Enemies would be an act of madness. People would ask things like, “Why did you miss this show?”, “Did you not know the show was on?”, “Were you told by a fairground fortune teller that the venue in which the show would take place was structurally unsound and that it would collapse the very night of the show, then you went back the next day and the fair had disappeared?”, “Did you, in fact, go to the show but become trapped in a lavatory cubicle while the sound of laughter drowned out your frantic shouting and banging?” Are you really equipped to deal with questions like these?

Our enemies for February are very, very exciting…

Criminal is an improv show in which the foul smell of murder looms large and lingers. One comedian plays a detective; the other three play suspects. The murderer finds out onstage at the beginning of the evening that they are guilty. It is the detective’s job to work out which of the three suspects this murderer is. Criminal is produced by Ralph Jones and Joel Gatehouse. Guests have included Miles Jupp, Josie Lawrence, and Marcus Brigstocke. Tonight’s team will be… Lauren Shearing, Joseph Morpurgo, Alexander Fox, Dylan Townley.

Then Joe and Lauren will join David Reed and Phil Whelans to comprise Grand Theft Impro.

Lauren Shearing is a cast member of Showstopper. She has guested with Austentatious  and the Comedy Store Players. She’s in two-person improv show Breaking & Entering with Maria Peters. Together they co-founded The Playground , one of London’s leading improv comedy nights, which showcases new female talen. She also appeared in Newsrevue, ITV’s Comedy Cuts, the Edinburgh Fringe and has presented interactive kids shows for CBBC.

Joseph Morpurgo Star of runaway Edinburgh and West End smash Austentatious and his own hit one-man shows, TruthmouthOdessa and Soothing Sounds for Baby. His latest show Hammerhead will tour the UK in 2018.  TV appearances include Drunk History, Siblings, Murder in Successville, Harry and Paul’s Story of the Twos and Hoff the Record.  He has written and starred in shorts for BBC3 and Sky Arts and his Radio 4 series, Joseph Morpurgo’s Walking Tour, aired in 2017. He has also guested with the Comedy Store Players and Improbable and performs and teaches improv across the UK.

David Reed One third of monster hit sketch team The Penny Dreadfuls (two Radio 4 series and several one-offs), David has been on TV in such shows as Gary: Tank Commander, Fast and Loose, It’s Kevin (which Phil was in too) and Father Figure. He hosts two wildly successful podcasts, Film Fandango and the extremely funny Inside the Comedian.

Phil Whelans Writer and performer of his own Radio 4 sitcom, My First Planet, founder member of Pros from Dover – with whom he did two series of Radio 4’s The Infinite Monkey Cage. Phil has worked with everyone from Al Gore to Basil Brush via Joan Rivers, Chris Morris, Robin Williams and, er, Giles Brandreth.  Phil has been in It’s Kevin, Brasseye, Preston Front and several unsuccessful radio and TV impro pilots. He has appeared in Showstopper: the Improvised Musical , bald with David Shore and is a Monkey Toast player.
